Yamaha YDD60 Drum Pad Demo

May 22, 2010
By

The Yamaha YDD60 features everything a basic drumming kit includes: hi-hat and pedal, bass drum pedal, snare drum, tom-toms, upright bass, crash, ride and splash cymbals, plus lots of electronic voices of accesories such as cowbell, tambourine, conga drums, bongoes, etc. It is ideal for the beginner or the practicioner who has no much space or is not allowed to do that much noise (like you humble friend). Here I plugged the YDD60 to an amp, but it is not really necessary for practice purposes. Sound quality is OK and the price is quite affordable. You can also plug in headphones, MP3 and MIDI devices. So, if you have the chance to get one, go ahead and have lots of fun.

The YDD-60 has now been replaced by a new model called the Yamaha YDD-65.  It costs around $250.  Check it out HERE.

    @ejvaldes : you can …
    @ejvaldes : you can create your own kits, but only from the sounds that the YDD-60 is programmed with. If you use a program like BFD on the PC, you can use the YDD-60 as a MIDI controller and play any set that BFD supports.

    @SOULSOFDARK : Just use a double bass pedal with the KP-65, there’s more than enough room for both mallets to hit the head.

    @absu34 : The …
    @absu34 : The Yamaha HH-65 high hat pedal and the Yamaha KP-65 kick pad work with the YDD-60. I bought both from Rupps, plus a Dixon kick drum pdeal to match to the pad. By brother-in-law is a decent drummer, he was impressed with how well it all worked. An extremely compact drum setup. I’m running it into my audio studio’s mixer, where it goes to my Mackie monitors and my sub, sounds great.

    PART II

    I forget …
    PART II

    I forget the exact details about the DD65 hi-hat issue, but keyword searching it is easy.

    Unsure if the YDD60 has the hi-hat MIDI issue, too, but it’s so similar to the DD65 I didn’t want to take the chance.

    Actually, the DD55 is probably STILL too much of an enthusiast drum kit for me. It doesn’t have built in drum beats as the DD35 does. If it does I haven’t figured it out yet.

    To sum up, I’d get another DD55, if this one was destroyed in a nuclear war.

    PART I

    This YDD60 …
    PART I

    This YDD60 and DD65 really confused me. I searched a LOT on the web and could not find any information about any differences. That includes the Yamaha website, too.

    I wanted to buy used, because I didn’t want to pay “retail” and it was ONLY for occassional use anyways.

    In the end I got a bargain on a DD55, which will do the job just fine for me.

    Another reason why I got the DD55 is because a used DD65 would likely have the hi-hat MIDI error, whereas the DD55 does not.

    I turned the pedals upside down and duct taped them to a large piece of cardboard. Now they stay in place and I can play the bass drum much more consistently.

    Good question. I’ve never tried it, indeed, but the kit has a midi entrance, and the manual says you can “assign different voices” to 5 custom kits you can program, so I think that’s a “maybe”.

    I’ve got a good question, although I don’t know if you’ve tried this kind of stuff, can you use sounds other than the ones programmed into it? Either importing your own drum sounds in or, I don’t know, using it as a midi controller or something?
