I’m making an electronic drum pad and I need to know exactly what it means by "Score the center of the surface with the pocket knife." The website is http://www.electronicdrums.com/pads/pads2.htm
Ok thanks but i knew that. How exactly am i supposed to scratch it. am i supposed to just make the whole thing messed up looking or is there a certain way to do it?

Its like drawing a line on it with a pencil only when you score something, your actually making a slight cut on the top of the material your scoring; not all the way through but merely scratching a line on it.

Looking at the website i gave the wrong definition. In this case, its to scratch it alot or to rough it up so the glue has something to "grab" onto rather than a slick surface.

Scoring means to rough the surface usually with cuts. This increases the adhesive ability of the surface.
