While not necessarily new for the show, the Yamaha DTXMulti12 is still a pretty newsworthy instrument. This 12-trigger electronic drum pad introduces a few unique twits on the sample-player idea, and features a varied-angle playing surface that’s both functional and neat-looking.

To get a better idea of the DTXMulti12 in performance, we asked Yamaha’s booth rep to give us the low down and play something both atmospheric and dramatic. Yes, were we that specific. And yes, he delivered.

HIGH QUALITY DRUM PADS WITH A CLASSIC DRUM MACHINE

A COMPLETE ALL-IN-ONE PERCUSSION STATION. Performance Pad features eight velocity-sensitive drum pads and a built-in electronic drum machine with professional sounds and features. You can create and record your own beats from scratch or play along with the built-in patterns. With Performance Pad, you can practice quietly with headphones, or plug into an amplifier.

Performance Pad includes inputs for a bass drum pedal, hi-hat pedal, and a Line-level input to connect a CD Player, iPod®, computer, or other audio device so that percussionists can play along with nearly any recorded mix. Built-in rhythm patterns are also included to compliment playing.

NAMM 2008 Electronic Drums: RET Percussion

I was honored by an invitation to join R.E.T. Percussion in introducing the first software based, custom shop drum kit at the 2008 NAMM show. We were all proud to release the latest in electronic percussion, the Virtual Percussion Technology Package. This next generation design recreates the real feel of an acoustic drum in an electronic instrument, triggering great software sounds like BFD and EZDrummer.

The DTX900 series (the DTX950K and the DTX900K) features the DTX-PAD and Yamaha’s new T.C.S (Textured Cellular Silicone) technology, which offers drummers an expressive playing experience. Small air bubbles create a foamed silicone surface purported to provide playability and feel unlike any other pad so that even the most jaded acoustic drummer will feel right at home. The DTX900 drum module borrows its technology from the Motif XS for expressive articulation.
