The Yamaha DTXPLORER Electronic Drum Set is a superb electronic drum set for practice at home or gigging live.  The DTXPLORER is Yamaha’s lowest-priced professional-grade 5-piece electronic drum set. It features 214 high-calibre Yamaha drum and percussion voices, 22 preset songs, 32 preset drum kits, digital effects, and a 16-bit tone generator with 32-note polyphony. The kit comes complete with high impact rubber electronic pads with a natural feel and rebound, a sturdy folding rack, and an FP-6110 bass drum pedal to complete the set.

The included cables that run between the Yamaha DTXPLORER drum trigger module and the pads are optimized to provide enough length to run comfortably from the module to each pad. All of the cables are bundled into a snake and the cable ends are labelled with input jack numbers and pad names so you can connect easily.

The Yamaha DTXPLORER is easy to store using its foldaway system, allowing you to store the unit with the trigger module and pads on the rack. It has an ultra lightweight design which makes it easy to move around and convenient to store in small space.

Recent review of the Yamaha DTXPLORER
I just bought a DTXplorer and so far it’s been great. I had heard good things about them and needed an electronic drum set to practice with so as not to disturb my roommates. The set feels and sounds great. It has 32 pre set drum settings but I have only found that maybe 5 or 6 of them are actually useful.  Some of them are just weird but fun to play around with. If you need an electronic drum set to practice I would highly recommend this set because it sounds great and the price is right. However, if you’re a pro drummer looking to use this for recording in the studio, or need a really technical set, then this isn’t for you.  There are only a few problems I have found so far. The first is that the hi-hat pedal isn’t very responsive but not too bad. Another is that the lug nuts come loose now and again. Other than that the set is great.

One of the main advantages of having an electronic drum set is that you can simply throw on a pair of headphones and play as loudly as you like without upsetting your family or neighbours. The only sound anyone else will hear is the sound of your sticks hitting the pads while you thrash along to your favourite rock song. When you have finished practicing you also have the advantage that the drum kit can be stored away in a cupboard because electronic sets are much smaller than traditional acoustic kits. As you pay more for your kit, the quality and authenticity of the sound and feel improves.

Unlike an acoustic kit you don’t have to worry about tuning the drum kit as electronic sets are not affected by cold or humidity. You can even change the overall sound settings with the push of a couple of buttons to make it sound like you’re playing on stage in a large concert hall or a small jazz club. Most electronic drum sets allow you to connect up your iPod or MP3 player so you can play along with your favourite music, and some of them even allow you to remove the drum track completely.

Electronic drum sets can be great for playing live on stage, or just for practicing at home without bothering your neighbours or family. There is a huge range of electronic kits on the market from beginner level to professional studio kits, and your budget and ability will determine which one you decide to buy.
