I saw a Yamaha DTX for 600$ on musicians friend and a Roland TD-4S for 995$ but don’t care for mesh pads, the reason I’m looking at the Roland is because I know it has a better reputation for drum pads because I don’t want it to feel like a guitar hero drum set so I can execute blast beats and drum rolls properly thanks ![]()
Yes, Id go for Roland. Even the Roland TD 20 top of the line sets use Mesh pads. Be prepared to spend more though. For a decent set, Id say you are looking at over $2,000. They all feel like GH pads under that amount, to me.

I’m a little confused by your question. You say you don’t want it to feel like GH pads but also say you don’t like mesh pads. That is very confusing. Mesh pads are the most realistic feeling pads you can buy. The other option, rubber pads, is what GH/RB drums use.
