Looking to add electronic pads to my acoustic drum set…need help.?

i want to use simmons trigger pads and (preferably) a synthesizer software with my laptop as opposed to a piece of hardware.

I was looking for help with:

1. Is this even possible?
2. What is the "best" software available. Best as in quality and affordability.
3. Would it be better to just by synthesizer hardware?

synthesizer software yuck! I have tons of it and will never use that crap. Get hard ware everything when it comes to instruments.Simmonds is great so is Roland SPD-20 and SPD sampler.
