Roland Drum Machines: Don't Do Anything Until You Read This!

One of the best Roland drum machines I have used (even although it’s super old school) is the TR-808, which you can pick up on ebay authority now.

Back in the 80′s it was one of the earliest drum machines you could actually program, and at the time that was a almighty deal.

When the 808 earliest came out it was mainly meant to be used for home demos and I have to say that the sounds on there don’t actually airtight much like a real drum kit. But for me that’s the complete point. I use the 808 for actually old school sounding hip hop and it cogs atrocious good!

Think early NWA stuff…

If you want to get a actually aboveboard drum airtight you should not go for one of these crazy old school Roland drum machines. Maybe think concerning anything from the new DR Rhythm range, which are also excellent.

It actually makes me gibe to think that the TR-808 cost $1000 when it was release. A lot of people think the sounds are totally rubbish.

But even Mavin Gaye used it on the super almighty hit Sexual Healing!

Wow!

Since the more achievable drum machines appeared on the market the TR-808 in progress to loose popularity. But made a big comeback as a despicable beat maker for hip hop artists to make tracks for a low cost.

The Beasties Boys used the 808 all the time and just added samples from rock songs which sounded actually cool.

If you want to bear some ageless old school sounds you can still find them on ebay for a good price.

Final thoughts.

I love it when I hear the 808 airtight on modern hip hop tracks today. They’ve put them thought a bunch of processing but you can still hear those old beats kicking out like always.

On of the best Roland drum machines ever.

Can I use my Tascam DP008 to record with Yamaha DTXplorer?

Will the sound be clear?
Just use the output L (mono) R
to the input on the tascam?

I also have a Roland KC-550 so
I think it will sound great with these drums.

One more…. I am buying the drums used but mint for
$400.00 are there electronic drums in that price range
that sound better?

Yes it will work great! You should connect the left and right outputs of the drum set to inputs 1 and 2 on the Tascam. You will need two 1/4 inch cables to do this.

Most drummers prefer the sound of acoustic drums. You would need to spend a lot more than $400 on electronic drums to sound better than any decent acoustic kit.

How to record drum sounds/audio from Yamaha DTXplorer?

I want to record videos of myself playing the drums but when i just use a video camera, the sound is not accurate at all. I’ve seen on YouTube that certain people get the exact sound by using mics (for acoustic kits) but how do I do so for the DTXplorer (an electronic kit). Please do mention all the different methods you know in case I do not have the equipment for one method.

Recording an electric drum kit is very easy if you have either a recording interface or a USB mixer.

With either of these, all you need to do is connect the output of your drum’s modulator to one of these. Then you will need some kind of recording software. There are some very basic programs that are free, but very basic.

So what you will do is record the sound while capturing the video. You will then tweek the audio in your recording software and then sync it with the video in the video software of your choise. Many times Windows based computers will come with free movie making software. If you don’t have any, you can probably download this for free as well.

I got this the other week and am very satisfied with it, i was going to make a review for it when i purchased it but it wouldn’t be all that great because without an amp you have to use 1/4 inch headphones. If your looking to buy an electric drum set i strongly recommend this one.
